My great-grandfather Guido was born in 1900.
He was an incredibly kind man. He was peaceful, honest, deeply in love with his wife, Palmira.
He also was anti-fascist, anti-clerical and unable to tolerate injustice.
Right after the WWII, a young widow and her children living in the neighborhood were left without a home.
A priest had promised her a house, but then he took his word back, giving it to another woman (some said she was his lover)
One day Guido left home and accidentally met the priest on the sidewalk.
They had a brief argument, and Guido, for the first and the last time in his life, raised a hand against anyone and slapped him.
Il mio bisnonno Guido nacque nel 1900.
Era un uomo incredibilmente gentile. Era una persona pacifica, onesta e profondamente innamorata di sua moglie, Palmira.
Era inoltre antifascista, anticlericale e incapace di tollerare le ingiustizie.
Subito dopo la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, una giovane vedova del quartiere si ritrovò senza casa.
Un prete le aveva promesso un appartamento, ma poi si rimangiato la promessa, assegnandola a un’altra donna (che, secondo alcuni, era la sua amante).
Un giorno Guido uscì di casa e si imbatté casualmente nel prete sul marciapiede.
Ebbe con lui una breve discussione e, per la prima e unica volta in vita sua, alzò la mano contro qualcuno, schiaffeggiandolo.
